Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE, pronounced T-K-E or "Teke", as in teak wood) is a college fraternity with chapters in the USA, and Canada, and affiliation with a German fraternity system known as the Corps of the Weinheimer Senioren Convent(WSC). Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded on January 10, 1899 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. With 274 active collegiate chapters and colonies throughout the United States and Canada, TKE has been the largest social fraternity in the world by number of chapters since 1961. The Five founders of TKE are Charles Roy Atkinson, Clarence Arthur Mayer, James Carson McNutt, Joseph Lorenzo Settles, and Owen Ison Truitt. |
The Mu Nu Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded as Phi Delta Chi on May 15, 1965. It recieved its TKE charter on May 17, 1969. Mu Nu chapter won homecoming in 1995 and Greek Week in 1996 and 2001. In 2000 they recieved the "Lucky 13 Horshoe Rush Award" for having the highest rush numbers in 1999. In 2005 Mu Nu was awarded most improved TKE chapter in the nation, tying with two other chapters, and in 2006 it was awarded the best TKE chapter in the Horshoe Region. Also in 2006, Mu Nu chapter was awarded the UW-Platteville Alumni Association Oak Leaf Award for outstanding Greek Chapter at UW-Platteville. Tau Kappa Epsilon - Mu Nu annually supports many charitable causes. Every year members of Mu Nu volunteer in the Badger Telethon, Teeter-totter-athon with Zeta Beta Chi sorority, Grant River Cleanup, Halloween Walk, the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk in Lancaster, along with many other charitable causes. We also regularly raise money for the Alzheimer's association and this year was the first year we had several teams participate in the St. Jude Up 'til Dawn benefitting the St. Jude Children's hospital. |
